Lucerne Maps and Orientation

(Lucerne, Switzerland)

Capital of the Swiss canton of the same name, the city of Lucerne has a population of around 75,000 residents and enjoys an especially pleasant situation next to the shores of Lake Lucerne. The city itself lies within central Switzerland and boasts a scenic mountainous backdrop, provided by the mountains of both Rigi and Pilatus.

Lucerne straddles the River Reuss, with its medieval town centre standing on the northerly bank. The railway station is just a short walk away and sited on the southerly bank on the Reuss, off the Zentralstrasse and next to the Bahnhofplatz. At the very mouth of Lake Lucerne and next to the Bahnhofplatz are a series of boat quays, and the bridges of Seebrucke and Kapellbrücke.
