Lucerne Hotels and Accommodation

(Lucerne, Switzerland)

Lodging next to the Jesuit ChurchA small and peaceful city, hotels in Lucerne offer a relatively comfortable stay and often exceptional views of the mountainous backdrop and the meandering River Reuss. During the summer season, accommodation in Lucerne becomes quite sought after, by both visiting Swiss and international tourists.

However, in the winter months, Lucerne is far quieter and in an attempt to keep occupancy levels up, many hotels choose to slash their rates by up to one third at this time of the year. However, despite its size, there is usually plenty of accommodation to go round to suit all budgets.

Lodging in the Old Town areaWhen you first check into your hotel, do ask the receptionist to stamp your 'Luzern Guide', since this will entitle you to enjoy savings when your visit museums, or if you choose to enjoy a cruise around Lake Lucerne. This stamp may also enable you to discounts if you choose to rent a car.

Where to Stay

The Camp Lido camping site is always an option if money is tight and resides on the Lidostrasse, on the eastern side of Lucerne and next to the lake's northerly shoreline. Another alternative to pensions (guesthouses) and hotels is the SYHA Hostel on the Sedelstrasse, and the Backpackers Lucerne Hostel, on the Alpenquai, roughly a ten-minute south-easterly walk from the train station.

For mid-range accommodation in Lucerne, check out the hotels along the Falkengasse, St. Leodegarstrasse, Stadthofstrasse and on the Zentralstrasse, such as the Hotel Waldstätterhof. Many of the more pricey lodging options in Lucerne are close to the River Reuss and the famous Kapellbrücke, including a number of hotels along the Rathausquai and around the Weinmarkt.
