Girona Parks and Gardens

(Girona, Catalonia, Spain)

Girona's parks and gardens have always provided a welcome opportunity to escape from the summer heat. Visitors to the city, in particular, appreciate being able to enjoy a shady stroll or relax over a lunchtime picnic in pleasant green surroundings.

In recent years, though, a positive effort has also been made to encourage more people to discover the city's green spaces and nature trails. Together, they offer a fresh perspective on the city's natural heritage.

If you only get a chance to visit one of the many green spaces in Girona, it has to be La Devesa Park. The park is reputed to be the largest of its kind in Catalonia.

La Devesa Park (Parc de la Devesa)

Address: Passeig de La Devesa, Girona, Spain
La Devesa Park is spread out over a vast area between the rivers Guell, Onyar and Ter. It is reputed to be home to one of the best plane tree plantations in the region, with over 2,600 examples in the park. Many of these were planted as long ago as the mid-19th century.

Away from the woodland shade, the park also has plenty of open sunny spaces where visitors and locals alike can play sport, enjoy a picnic or simply admire the gardens.
