Girona Hotels and Accommodation

(Girona, Catalonia, Spain)

Girona has an abundance of accommodation choices. These range from upmarket and boutique hotels to budget lodging options and guest houses.

If you haven't booked and arrive early enough in the day, it is well worth trying to find a room in Girona's historic quarter, close to most of the main tourist attractions. That said, if you have your own transport, you may want to consider a more rural retreat - a campsite or holiday home - on the outskirts of the city.

Girona has several good quality hotels that are situated in or near the city centre, making them perfect for exploring the main tourist attractions.

Where to Stay

Perhaps the best known of the city's boutique hotels is the Hotel Historic, which offers an interesting blend of an old exterior and an ultra modern interior. Likewise, the Hotel Llegendes de Girona Catedral is a stylish boutique option in an old building. It offers lodging with particularly good views of the city's cathedral. A five-minute walk from restaurants, the cathedral and the city's Jewish Quarter is the contemporary four-star hotel, the Nord 1901.

If you need to keep to a budget during your stay, Girona's 'hostales' provide an affordable alternative. They usually offer comfortable accommodation in rooms with shared or en suite bathrooms. One that oozes character and individuality is the Hostal Girona. Designed in the mid-19th century by the modernist architect Cerda, it offers plenty of period features, including chandeliers and wall hangings.

An increasingly popular alternative to mainstream hotels, 'hostal' accommodation shouldn't be confused with the city's 'hostels'. The latter are essentially youth or backpacker-type hostels. Among the most popular is the Equity Point Hostel, on the Placa Catalunya. The Camput de Motilivi offers plenty of choice, including several split-level apartments. The Cerveri de Girona is situated in the historic part of Girona and is perhaps best placed for being at the heart of the tourist beat.

Along with well-placed hotels, Girona also comes with plenty of apartment accommodation. The best place to enquire about the availability is through the Associacio Turistica d'Apartaments, or ATA, which has a database of apartments for rent in the city.

All of Girona's camp sites are situated outside the city itself and so require visitors to have their own transport. Likewise, transport is needed if you plan to stay in 'turisme rural' style accommodation, including holiday villas and farmhouses.
