Girona Art Galleries

(Girona, Catalonia, Spain)

There are a number of commercial galleries spread around the centre of Girona, lining roads such as both the Carrer de les Hortes and the Carrer Joan Masó i Valenti. However, it is the Museu d'Art in the very heart of the city that steals the show.

The Museu d'Art de Girona is to be found just a stone's throw from the cathedral, where it was founded in the middle of the 1970s. Occupying the historic former Episcopal Bishop's Palace, the city's official art museum houses an important collection of paintings, sculptures and other creations from past centuries up until today.

Also of note is the Contemporary Art Spaces Foundation, which was established in 1987 and specialises in exhibitions of modern art. The gallery relocated to its present spot in 2001 and now sits alongside the Placa del Vi, being close to the Ayuntamiento de Girona (Town Hall).
