Assisi Hotels and Accommodation

(Assisi, Umbria, Italy)

Central viewConsidering its relatively small size, the resort of Assisi boasts a phenomenal selection of accommodation, with far more hotels than most visitors would expect to find. However, during the busiest times, lodging in Assisi soon becomes scarce.

Hotels with availability are especially hard to come by during Assisi's exciting Easter celebrations in the Settimana Santa, or during the vibrant Festa di Calendimaggio, which takes place each year at the beginning of May. Accommodation can also be difficult to find in early October, when the religious celebrations of the Festa di San Francesco are in full swing and attracts crowds of visitors.

Where to Stay

The tourist office in Assisi provides a helpful accommodation finding service and features its very own list of lodging options, which include private rooms, apartments and even religious institutions.

Alternatively, as you walk around the town, keep a watchful eye out for 'room to rent' signs, which translates as 'camere' in Italian.

Picture showing popular hotelBudget accommodation in Assisi comes in the form of the Ostello della Pace, a cheap HI youth hostel enjoying a quiet spot on the Via Valecchie. If you are looking for hotels in the very heart of the action, then the Grotta Antica on the Via Macelli Vecchi is hard to beat, being a stone's throw from the Palazzo del Commune.

Close by and still in central Assisi, the 15th-century Sole Hotel resides on the Corso Mazzini, while for a little more luxury, consider the La Fortezza on the Vicolo della Fortezza or the top-end Subasio on the Via Frate Elia. Alternatively, the lodging within the neighbouring town of Spello is also worth considering.
