Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Umbria International Airport (PEG) Information

(Assisi, Umbria, Italy)

Formerly registered as the Perugia Sant'Egidio Airport, the Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Umbria International Airport lies in the central Italian province of Umbria. It serves the nearby regional capital city of Perugia, as well as Assisi and its surrounding area. This is a small facility, hosting just three airlines, one of which is Ryanair. This carrier offers regular flights to London and seasonal flights to Brussels, Cagliari, Girona, Milan and Trapani. Belle Air runs a regular service to Tirana, while Skybridge AirOps flies to Milan and seasonally to Olbia.

The airport has a single asphalt runway. Its recently expanded terminal facilities were opened in 2011, having been designed by Gae Aulenti (an accomplished Italian designer and architect) and part-financed by an Italian government grant. Set on a lush plain surrounded by towering hills, the complex is just three hours from Rome by car and sees a good number of visitors to Perugia's glorious medieval Old Town district (Centro Storico), as well as attracting academics fascinated by medieval art and tourists planning a weekend of sightseeing in Assisi.

Close to 200,000 passengers now pass through this airport annually. The terminal is particularly crowded out with travellers during the well-known Umbria Jazz Festival, Perugia's popular annual event, held over nine days in the middle of July.
