Sardinia Weather, When to Go and Climate Information
(Sardinia, Italy)
Due to its southerly locale, Sardinia is warm year round, with a pleasant spring climate starting in March, an early summer in May and stunning weather from June to September. The island has is a quintessential Mediterranean climate - hot and dry in the summer and cool and damp in the winter.
The Sardinian north is generally wetter than the south and is also slightly cooler, with the southern coast directly in the path of brutal winds coming up from North Africa. Temperature ranges on Sardinia run from a low of 0°C / 32°F up in the mountains near Nuoro, to as much as 40°C / over 100°F.
Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go
Although the weather is generally good, the worst time to visit Sardinia is arguably in July and August, as it is roasting hot and rather busy. Just before and after this time is the best bet, while for an especially pleasant climate and even more peace and quiet, aim for early spring or late autumn. The, albeit brief, winter is so-so, although many hotels and restaurants in tourist areas shut up shop for the duration of this quiet season.
Spring and summer are the driest seasons on Sardinia, with the latter in the south being particular dry and hot during the summer months. You could head for the mountains during this time for a respite from steamy nights. If you abhor wet weather, you're in luck as the island sees little rain month on month, apart from November and December.
