Sardinia Hotels and Accommodation

(Sardinia, Italy)

Close-up image of the Hotel Punta Negra in AlgheroSardinia is generally more expensive for hotels than on the mainland, and rightly so. There is a good range of accommodation, however, with everything from camp sites around the coast, to bed and breakfasts (B&Bs), guest houses, family-run hotels, chains, upscale resorts and exclusive villas in both the resorts and towns.

Accommodation always gets super-busy on Sardinia from the end of spring through to the end of the summer - May to September - when it is imperative to book ahead. You will get the best rates on upscale hotels on the island by booking online.

Where to Stay

There are options all over Sardinia, with the main tourist areas naturally being around the coast and in the main towns and cities.

The stunning stretch of north-eastern coast known as the Costa Smeralda has the best choices of accommodation and caters to families, couples, singles and retirees. The town of Olbia serves this busy coast and is also good for hotels.

The northern town of Sassari has a number of places to stay at various levels, although it is preferable to stay on the northern coast in either Porto Torres or Castelsardo.

Although accommodation on Sardinia predominantly comprises hotels and resorts, camping is popular and there are plenty of well-equipped sites around the coast.

Camping is fun from late spring to early autumn and you can enjoy tenting it in Nuoro in the centre of the island as well, where bed and breakfasts are also to hand.

Prices and availability, like anywhere in Europe, are higher and trickier in the summer, especially in July and August. Booking ahead is an absolute must anywhere on the island at this time. Good discounts can be had in the winter and when booking online at any time.
