However, if you are visiting Cagliari, then there are a couple of galleries that really do stand out, coming with extensive permanent collections.

These include the National Picture Gallery of Cagliari, which is known locally on Sardinia as the Pinacoteca Nazionale and is part of the Cittadella Museum Complex. Also located here is the Siamese Art Museum (Museo d'Arte Siamese), where an eclectic selection of Asian art works is exhibited.

Located within the Cittadella Museum Complex, the Siamese Art Museum is home to an extensive collection of art works, crafts and weaponry, all of which originate from South-East Asia and date from the 11th century onwards. Other exhibits include silverware, Asian coins, ivory carvings and pottery.
Open hours: Tuesday to Sunday, June to September - 09:00 to 13:00, 16:00 to 20:00; October to May - 09:00 to 13:00, 15:30 to 19:30

National Picture Gallery of Cagliari (Pinacoteca Nazionale)

Cagliari's Pinacoteca Nazionale's takes a look at Sardinian art between the 15th and 17th centuries. The museum boasts fine collections, including works by Pietro Cavaro - the most celebrated Sardinian artist - as well as an ancient collection of Spanish-Arab pottery from the 1300s. Also on display at the National Picture Gallery of Cagliari are some fascinating examples of Sardinian weaponry through the ages.
