Mykonos Shopping and Districts

(Mykonos, Cyclades, Greece)

View of stores and touristsDesigner shopping abounds on the island of Mykonos, with many funky fashion boutiques and clothing stores all competing for your attention around Hora. Many of the big names in the fashion industry seem to be gathered in this part of Mykonos, such as Diesel, Dolce and Gabbana, and Lacoste, to name but a few.

The Mykonos shopping scene usually more than meets the needs of most tourists, with popular goods including everything from T-shirts and sunglasses, to books, postcards and quality jewellery, which is often reminiscent of ancient Greek designs.

When and Where to Shop

Most shops in the busiest areas of the island remain open all through the week and the weekend, roughly between the hours of 09:00 until as late as 22:00.

However, in some of the quietest streets and villages around Mykonos, many operate much shorter shopping hours and even close for a period in mid-afternoon, so that the shopkeeper can enjoy a siesta.

Picture of local gift shopMatogianni Street is the principal shopping street in Hora and its extensive selection of stores will certainly far from disappoint. Many small cobbles alleyways are also in this area and if you explore them you will no doubt come upon all sorts of goodies and potential holiday souvenirs for sale.

The Plateia Alefkandra is also worth a look on Mykonos, as are the streets around Enoplon Dynameon and also the Gold Market, which stands at the very entrance to Hora, on the Polykandrioti.
