Attractions Nearby Mykonos and Island Hopping

Those looking to experience the cultural attractions and life on another Greek island other than just Mykonos will find that various options present themselves. Popular attractions suitable for island hopping include many of the other Cyclades islands, such as
Naxos, Paros and
Santorini, all of which are just a relatively short ferry ride from Mykonos.
Delos is an appealing island with a number of ancient sites, and is conveniently close by (2 km / 1.5 miles to the west) and linked to Mykonos by regular daily excursions. Just a matter of minutes away, Delos is reputed to be the birthplace of Greek gods, Artemis and Apollo. The gorgeous beach attractions and coastal scenery on the island of Tinos is also surprisingly close by.
Naxos
The island of Naxos is just two hours away by ferry and tourists holidaying on Mykonos may well choose this appealing destination for a spot of island hopping. As you sail across, you are able to either sit on the top deck and enjoy the sunshine and views, or head downstairs to the air-conditioned bar for a glass of Ouzo or Greek wine. When you arrive on Naxos, you will find attractions such as the town beach of
Agios Georgios, the olive groves of
Tragaea, and the
Cave of Zeus (Zas), a large natural cavern which is located at the very base of Mount Zeus.
Delos
Now listed as a World Heritage Site, due to its exceptional wealth of archaeological sites and attractions, Delos has also become a notable Mediterranean port. Particular highlights on Delos include the House of Dionysus, the Minoan Fountain, the Temple of the Delians, the Temple of Hera, the Terrace of the Lions, and the island's historic market squares.
Paros
Regular ferries stop of at Paros, on their way to Naxos, making this island resort highly suitable for an excursion or short break. Paros is known for being a very friendly and accommodating island, with plenty of excellent beaches and an array of water sport attractions, such as surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing and sailing. Paros is also home to the Panagia Ekatantapiliani Church, which is located within the harbourfront town of Parikia.
Santorini
More than one million tourists visit the island of Santorini each year, giving you just some indication of its huge popularity and appeal. The attractions of Santorini are easily reached by Blue Star ferry in less than three hours, with highlights including innumerable
beaches and a surprising number of
museums, which cover topics such as prehistoric Thera, archaeology and the island's interesting maritime past. The main places of interest on Santorini are generally found within either
Fira and Oia.
Tinos
There tend to be at least three or four daily ferries linking Mykonos with the Aegean island of Tinos in just 15 minutes or thereabouts. Known as the Island of Megalohari (Virgin Mary), Tinos has so truly awesome beaches, although in many cases, they can be quite a trek to actually reach. Head to Pyrgos, on the northern side of Tinos, where many local Greek artists sell and exhibit their works.
