The Hexenring
If you are walking into Heidelberg and through the castle gateway, then look a bit closer. One of the oak doors has a large iron knocker, which actually has a very small crack in. How did it get there? Well a witch bit it of course, when the prince challenged to give her his castle if she could bight through the ring. Well, she gave it a good go, but then her tooth fell out - yeah, course it did. Nice story though! The Hexenring is therefore now called the 'Witch's Ring'.

Views of Heidelberg from the Philosophenweg
This is where that famous postcard shot is taken from. You'll want to come to the Philosophenweg for the best view that you can imagine. It's really lovely here when the sun is setting. A nice place for a leisurely afternoon hike. Corss the bridge, onto the Ziegelhausener Strasse, and then onto the Schlangenweg.

Take the Funicular Railway to the Heidelberg Castle
If you're going to visit Heidelberg Castle, you can walk here and that's fine and all that, but I prefer taking the funicular railway. More fun, and walking down is always easier than going up. The funicular railway can transport around 50 people at one time and is just under 500 metres long.
