Not a gallery as such, Halle 02 is a unique nightclub and mixes DJs with visual and performance arts. Enjoy everything from video installations to graffiti and photography, as you swing your hips to the beat. Open daily until the early hours, you will have to stay up late it you want to fully appreciate this set up, which won the Innovation Prize (Innovationspreis) for best club in the state.

Heidelberg Art Gallery (Heidelberger Kunstverein)

This art club and museum hosts frequently rotating exhibitions throughout the year, focusing on modern art works. Both international and national art is showcased at the Heidelberg Art Gallery, and guided tours are available two days a week. Also on-site is a library containing material on contemporary art. Keeping things lively are the multitude of art performances of all genres, including dance, music and drama, which are held in the exhibition hall year-round.

Museum of Ancient Art (Antikenmuseum und Abgusssammlung)

This impressive archaeological collection ranks as the largest university collection of its kind in Germany. Housed in the Marstallhof, visitors to the Heidelberg Museum of Ancient Art can appreciate ancient art works from the 4th century up until late antiquity. Not only displaying German finds, there are pieces from across the globe, including works from Mediterranean countries. The cast gallery is a highlight, displaying intriguing casts of famous Greek and Roman statues, made from plaster.

Museum of the Palatinate (Kurpfälzisches Museum im Palais Morass)

Presenting art and cultural history of the region, this fascinating collection is on display at the Baroque Palais Morass, worth visiting in its own right. The collection of portraits of the Prince Electors is a highlight, as are the extensive collections of Frankenthal porcelain, costumes throughout the ages and German coins. The gallery of sculptures and paintings at the Museum of the Palatinate houses works from the 15th through 10th century, showcasing pieces by Heidelberg's Romantics.
