Espoo Shopping and Districts

(Espoo, Uusimaa, Southern Finland, Finland)

Photo of the interior of a shopping centreThe choice of shopping in Espoo is reasonable, but will never compete on the same stage as the endless shopping opportunities which present themselves in nearby Helsinki, along stretches such as the Aleksanterinkatu and the Esplanadi. However, if you are happy to stay in Espoo, you will find plenty of good shops based around the Tapiola district.

Those shopping in Tapiola can enjoy a fully pedestrianised precinct, conveniently near to the bus station and also the Central Basin. A number of Finland's familiar department store giants reside in this part of Espoo, such as both Sokos and also Stockmann, which can be found on the Länsituulentie.

Where to Shop

Tapiola is also home to the Tapiontori Shopping Centre, which has grown up around a central courtyard and has much to offer. Close by, the Heikintori Shopping Mall is considerably more modern and offers a range of stores and eateries, all under just one roof. The Tapiola district of Espoo will more than meet most shopping needs and visitors will rarely have to venture elsewhere.

However, don't overlook the glitzy new Sello Shopping Centre, which has only recently been completed and is amongst Finland's very biggest malls, with some 140 different businesses, all conveniently situated on the Leppävaarankatu and next to the Leppävaara train station. Other notable shopping centres within Espoo include the Espoontori on the Espoon Keskus, the Galleria on the Leppävaara, the Iso Omena on the Piispansilta and the Lippulaiva on the Espoonlahti.
