Sealife Tower
I was suprised when I saw the queue for this as it looked like a big attraction in Weymouth, which would bring lots of attention, but completely the opposite to what was expected. Buying tickets was confusing with the inconveniently positioned ticket counter, and then we were given one ticket thinking we were all on the same ticket, finding out out that it wasn't the case and had to get in with the receipt. When in the tower we were told what was where as well as some terrible jokes. I enjoyed the view and really that was really all it was, but I think we were just unfortunate with the tickets as no one else had that problem. For the price (the same for everyone) it was rather good and I would consider going again.

Dog Days
Took an out-of-season trip to Weymouth to have some fun with the dogs. We parked at Bowleaze Cove and walked into Weymouth, which was fun and good exercise. We had a great time on the sands with the dogs, then a walk up the pier and round the Nothe. We ate fish and chips while watching the boats arriving and departing in the busy harbour, then back to the car. Enjoyed it so much we shall be going back again soon.

Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens
We travelled to Abbotsbury in Dorset last weekend and took the family to Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Although it was not in peak season there were many delights to be seen such as the autumnal colours, including the many colourful Acers. We all loved watching the kookaburra and pheasants and there were plenty of seats and benches dotted around so we could just sit and look at the amazing tree specimens. Our children enjoyed exploring the winding walkways and loved crossing the many little bridges and found some of the largest gunnera we have ever seen. They were delighted to find the playground at the end of our journey next to the plant sale area and were quite reluctant to leave. The final treat for them was the gift shop, which stocked some reasonably priced items for all of us.

Let's Go Fly a Kite - in Weymouth!
Each year at the beginning of May, the Weymouth International Kite Festival is a massive event. The skies above the beach are filled with kites or all colours, shapes and sizes. Quite a sight!

The Lighthouse at Portland Bill
People come to Portland Bill to see the lighthouse and there is a car park nearby. If you come here on a foggy day, the fog horn is almost deafening - quite an experience. Chesil Beach is nearby and stretches for miles and miles - nearby 20 in fact.

Abbotsbury Swannery
Abbotsbury is a big village fairly close to Weymouth. You should try and come here in late spring (May and June), because there are thousands of swan and cygets in the Swannery and it really is quite an experience. There have been swans here for more than 600 years, apparently. There are some really great subtropical gardens just up the road as well, so if you want to make a day of it, you can buy a 'passport ticket' for both attractions, and also a Children's Farm as well.
