Many of the most imposing and impressive Czech buildings in Prague come in the guise of cathedrals, churches and chapels. The religious buildings showcase some of the very best in period architecture in the Czech Republic and clearly demonstrate the grandeur of the past.

The Gothic-style St. Vitus Cathedral dominates the city's skyline and is part of the Prague Castle complex, within the Hradcany district. This glorious cathedral has become nothing short of an iconic structure and contains many priceless treasures within its Royal Crypt.


Although construction of St. Vitus Cathedral began in the middle of the 14th century, it was not actually completed in every aspect until almost 600 years later, in the late 1920s. Also worth spending some time exploring during your time in Prague is the early 18th-century St. Climent's Cathedral, and the similarly aged Cathedral of St. Cyril and Methodius.
