Kyrenia Restaurants and Dining

(Kyrenia, Cyprus)

Photo of al fresco tables next to the harbourThe Cypriots certainly love their food and that is certainly the case in Kyrenia, where restaurants are almost everywhere. However, when dining out in Kyrenia, the restaurants and eateries targeting tourists are best avoided, since the food is extremely basic and little more than steak and chips.

Therefore, for the best Turkish Cypriot dining experience, try to eat where the locals do. Residents of Kyrenia generally favour a small selection of restaurants, although most choose to eat tasty shish-kebabs at Turkish-food joints.

Where to Eat

The harbourfront is an especially touristy part of Kyrenia, and although this is a great place to hang out in the evening, the restaurants and cafes are a little lacking. That said, the Set Fish Restaurant is one of the better eateries and stands on the Girne Limani, where you can dine next to a window and watch the boats coming and going in the harbour.

Although there are a handful of very noteworthy restaurants in the town centre of Kyrenia, those in the know head out in an easterly direction to the Catalkoy, or westwards to the Agios Georgios. Many of these dining venues choose to open for dinner only and offer extensive 'meze' (mezedes) platters, where you can sample small helpings of local Cypriot and Turkish specialities. Standing in the hills, high above Kyrenia, nearby Bellapais is also known for its fine dining.
