Split Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

Resting on the Adriatic Sea, Split comes with a typically-pleasant Mediterranean climate, which means hot, dry summers and warm, moist winters. Daytime summer temperatures hover around the upper 20s (°C), while winters rarely see dips below 10°C / 50°F during the day, apart from when a trademark northerly breeze hits. Split is, therefore, good to visit year-round where the climate is concerned.

For the sun, you can visit anytime between May and September to experience nice weather. The city enjoys one of the sunniest climes in the Mediterranean, although has its fair share of rainfall, too - mainly late autumn and into winter. If you don't care for crowds and are looking to pick up hotel rooms without a crush, avoid July and August, the European school holidays.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Split has seasonal weather in keeping with the rest of coastal Europe in general, with spring, summer, autumn and winter. Spring, summer and early autumn are all appealing times climate wise, while late autumn and winter is wetter. There is only the one month of true cold (mid-January to mid-February), although it is still okay during the daytime when compared with northern and western Europe regions.

Spring is a relatively short spell - just April and May, with the latter being popular with those in search of some sun and lower crowds. The summer season runs from June to early September and easily has the best weather. Days in July and August see shade temperatures in the mid-30s (°C) and pleasant nights. It is also super-busy at this time, though, with daily cruise arrivals adding to the general crush. On par with May is September / October for decent temperatures and lesser crowds.
