Graz Hotels and Accommodation

(Graz, Styria, Austria)

Picture of the city centre from high above GrazHotels, pensions (guesthouses), youth hostels and even camping sites all compete in the Graz area, meaning that there is usually plenty of accommodation to choose from. Most hotels in Graz are based around the Inner City and near to the River Mur, with some adopting the local custom of placing pumpkin seeds on your pillow, instead of chocolates.

A number of hotels line the riverfront stretch of Grieskai, on the western banks of the River Mur, such as the family run Grand Hotel Weitzer, an extravagant top end hotel with a rather eye-catching Art Deco exterior. Away from the accommodation in the city centre, the Camping Central camp site on the Martinhofstrasse lies around 6 km / 4 miles to the south-west, and comes complete with an enormous outdoor pool and separate area for nudists.

Where to Stay

Just a ten-minute walk from the Graz railway station, the Jugendgastehaus lies along the Idlhofgasse and in recent years was awarded the prestigious title of Austria's best hostel. Further budget accommodation in Graz is available at the highly recommended Pension Steierstub'n, which boasts an excellent traditional Styrian restaurant and even loans its guests bicycles, free of charge.

Several big brand name hotels are clustered around the Europaplatz, offering a relatively central location just metres from the Graz train station, and around 2.5 km / 1.5 miles from the Schlossberg. Accommodation on the Europaplatz includes both the Ibis Graz and the Lifestyle Hotel Daniel, and close by on the Annenstrasse, the Best Western Drei Raben. Head to the west and along the Keplerstrasse to find several truly excellent lodging options, in the very heart of the action. Standing on the Schlogelgasse, reasonably priced accommodation is on offer at the Hotel Gollner and the Augarten Hotel, the latter of which boasts excellent panoramas from its rooftop terrace.
