Salzburg Original Sound of Music Tours

(Salzburg, Austria)

Photo of Leopoldskron CastleYou cannot properly experience what Salzburg has to offer without first taking a tour of the city. Regular sightseeing tours depart from the Mirabellplatz (Mirabell Square) and take in the majority of the main tourist attractions in around one hour, with longer trips also available to destinations such as the neighbouring resort of Salzkammergut.

The Original Sound of Music Tours are always of particular interest to movie buffs and many tourists come to Salzburg just for the opportunity to visit some of the actual movie locations around the city, which featured prominently in this award-winning and rather iconic movie.

As you travel around Salzburg onboard the coach, the Sound of Music soundtrack will be playing in the background and an English-speaking guide will point out relevant attractions along the way. Expect to see some remarkable views of the hillsides around Lake Fuschi and St. Gilgen, where the first scenes of the movie were shot of Maria bursting out in full voice, singing 'The hills are alive, with the Sound of Music'.

Also worth looking out for as your tour Salzburg is the 18th-century Mirabell Gardens, which featured prominently in the Sound of Music, in the scene where Maria and the children sing 'Do-Re-Mi' next to the Pegasus statue. The tour coach will also pass the Von Trapp family's home in the film, which was the exterior of the Leopoldskron Castle.

Nonnberg Abbey should be familiar to many fans of this musical, as it was used in early scenes with Maria and the nuns.
