Queenstown Shopping and Districts
(Queenstown, Otago, South Island, New Zealand)
Central Queenstown is home to plenty of shopping possibilities, offering an array of
New Zealand souvenirs, ranging from sheepskin goods and leatherware, to knitted jumpers and fine jewellery. The Queenstown Mall offers an excellent open-air shopping complex and is completely pedestrianised, being known locally as simply 'The Mall' and located between Shotover Street and Stanley Street.
A number of modern shopping complexes have opened up in Queenstown over the past few years and new developments are still being planned. Located on both Beach Street and Camp Street, the O'Connells Shopping Centre is a good place to purchase fashion accessories, contemporary New Zealand art, and outdoor equipment for hiking (tramping).
Where to Shop
For souvenirs and pretty much everything else, The Mall really should be your first port of call. Another good cluster of stores awaits at the Steamer Wharf Shopping Centre on Beach Street (next to Duke Street, the Marine Parade and Rees Street), which is close to the waterfront.
The historical Earnslaw steamer is docked next to the wharf and regularly provides cruises around Lake Wakatipu.
The Steamer Wharf offers a mixture of shops and eateries, with the Queenstown Arts Centre being a firm favourite for many a holidaymaker, along with popular Kiwi-style leisure clothing, available at T & Ski Originals and other outlets.
