Picture of central art galleryArt galleries are to be found all around Bangkok and those looking for traditional Thai art works will find plenty of exhibitions to enjoy. Particularly notable are the paintings displayed at the Bangkok National Gallery along Chao Fa Road, where you will also discover a collection of abstract contemporary pieces.

Khao San Road and Siam Square are also home to a number of good art galleries and similar shops, along with the vibrant student areas, where many artists choose to sell their works on the street. The Bangkok National Museum is also worth a look and contains a mixture of art works and local treasures.


National Gallery

One of Bangkok's most notable art galleries, the National Gallery is located within the Phra Nakorn and showcases a mixture of both traditional pieces and modern art works. Many excellent paintings by Thai artists are a true highlight and a number date back more than 300 years. For others, the contemporary paintings and sculptures are especially memorable, while the rotating exhibitions provide ever-changing interest.

Rotunda Gallery

A stylish setting with much to offer, the Rotunda Gallery lies in the Bangrak neighbourhood and whilst fairly small in size, is always full of interest. Many temporary exhibitions are held here all through the year, where you can enjoy both traditional Thai pieces and folk art, to paintings with a much more European influence.

Goethe Institut

The Goethe Institut is a German-themed gallery, sited in the Sathorn area of Bangkok. Specialising in art exhibitions, concerts and various music events, the Goethe Institut regularly hosts a number of festivals, including a film event where German films are screened.
Open hours: Monday to Thursday - 08:00 to 16:30, Friday - 08:00 to 14:00
