Visitors to Ghana can choose from a good selection of accommodation, ranging from budget hostel rooms to the most luxurious beach resort hotels. However, mid-range hotels are usually the most popular choice, offering a good compromise between cost and facilities.

Guest houses are also a very affordable lodging option in this part of Africa, particularly if you are planning a longer stay in Ghana, or want to experience Ghanaian life a little more closely than a hotel would perhaps allow.

Where to Stay

Accra is the location for most of Ghana's luxury accommodation, including the likes of the Golden Tulip Hotel on Independence Avenue. Visitors who prefer more of a resort feel can opt for the Labadi Beach Hotel or La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, both of which boast an enviable beachfront location. Decor and facilities vary from clean-cut modern to faded colonial charm, so there is something to suit most tastes.

When searching for accommodation, it is worth taking a look at what the district of Osu has to offer. There are several good hotels in this trendy Accra neighbourhood. Whilst more expensive than similar establishments in other parts of Accra, Osu's hotels do have the advantage of being close to good restaurants and bars.

Accra also has several youth hostels which offer value-for-money accommodation for those visiting Ghana on a tight budget. Facilities do vary between establishments, with some of the better hostels offering Wi-Fi, washing facilities and well-equipped kitchens.

Elsewhere in Ghana, tourist hotspots such as Cape Coast, Kumasi and Tamale offer a reasonable variety of good-value hotels and guest house accommodation. Rooms vary as to cleanliness and size, so it is worth exploring your options if possible. They make particularly good bases if you are planning to visit a number of nearby attractions.
