Pretoria Hotels and Accommodation

(Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa)

Skyline viewPretoria is the administrative capital of South Africa and, as you'd expect, is able to offer plenty in the way of accommodation and affordable hotels. As with any city visit, where you decide to stay is largely dependent on budget and what you plan to do during your stay.

Pretoria has numerous budget and mid-range accommodation and lodging options, which are suitable for most visitors' needs. They can be found within the centre of the city and in the surrounding suburbs. These include family hotels, guesthouses and youth hostels, as well as all the usual chain hotels. However, for a trip of a lifetime, it's well worth considering Pretoria's upmarket hotels and game lodges.

Where to Stay

At the heart of the city, the five-star Sheraton Pretoria Hotel is luxury personified, from its elegant marble floors and sweeping staircases to its stylish swimming pool and restaurant. Also located in the central business district, the Southern Sun Pretoria offers four-star accommodation amidst modern and sophisticated surroundings.

Plenty of budget and mid-range hotel rooms are available. Many are located in the centre of Pretoria, within easy reach of the city's main attractions. Arcadia is a central district that offers a range of hotel accommodation, as well as self-catering alternatives. However, it's also worth checking out the lodging options in the leafier - and much quieter - suburbs of the city.

City viewVisitors can also choose to stay in one of Pretoria's many guesthouses. These offer accommodation on a bed and breakfast (B&B) basis. Dinner may also be available in some guesthouses. Rooms are generally comfortable and offer good value for money compared to Pretoria's hotels. Mainly located in the city suburbs, they give visitors a chance to really feel at home during their stay.

There are several backpackers' youth hostels both in the centre of Pretoria and in the outlying areas of the city. Facilities are usually on the basic side and the standard of lodging on offer can vary greatly. As a rule, though, they offer good value dormitory accommodation. Some have kitchen facilities. Larger hostels offer a shuttle bus to Johannesburg Airport, as well tours of Pretoria, Johannesburg and the surrounding area.
