(Libya, LY, North Africa)

Al-Kabir Hotel view of TripoliAccommodation in Libya is developing at a rapid rate, most notably in its larger urban centres. In particular, Tripoli and Benghazi offer a decent choice of places to stay, ranging from cheap hostel rooms and self-catering apartments through to mid-range guest houses and top-end international hotels.

In smaller towns, private lodging options and guest houses are usually available. However, in more remote areas of Libya, it may be a case of having to camp for want of alternative accommodation.

Where to Stay

The Corinthia retains is position as Tripoli's premier hotel. Rated with five stars, the Corinthia boasts several restaurants and an indoor pool, and is handily located for the business district of Tripoli.

For visitors wishing to stay closer to the historic sights of Tripoli, Libya's capital city, a number of hotels are available, including the four-star Andalus. Situated in the heart of Tripoli, the Al Waddan is notable as the city's oldest hotel, dating back to the 1930s.

Benghazi boasts quite a good selection of hotels, including a few four-star establishments. Most, however, provide mid-range accommodation only. The Benghazi youth hostel is also an option for budget travellers and backpackers, although places there should be booked in advance if you want to be guaranteed a bed in which to sleep.
