Visitors to Tanzania can look forward to pleasantly warm weather whatever time of the year you plan your trip.

The country's summer coincides with wintertime in the northern hemisphere countries, making it an attractive proposition for those wanting to escape colder climates. There are two rainy seasons, as well as temperature variations in different parts of the country.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

From June to October, the weather tends to be cooler and drier. These are the months when the climate in Tanzania is at its coolest. In the northern highlands, temperatures can average 10°C / 50°F. July and August is the most popular time of year to visit the country's national parks. On the coast, however, temperatures can reach a much warmer 23°C / 73°F, with cooling sea breezes making it feel very pleasant.

Late October usually means the start of the rainy season. This is characterised by short, light showers that occur in the morning and maybe in the late afternoon. In between showers, the weather is generally sunny.

From December to March, temperatures are higher, ranging from 25°C / 77°F to 32°C / 90°F. In the highland areas of northern Tanzania, this time of year is characterised by clear skies and beautiful sunsets. Around coastal parts of the country, the sea is at its warmest.

From mid-March to the end of May, the warm climate continues, but it is punctuated by heavy showers as the main rainy seasons kicks in. These downpours occur mostly in the morning and then again in the late afternoon or early evening. They may cause smaller roads to be impassable, making it difficult to visit some of the more remote attractions.
