Olympia Shopping and Districts

(Olympia, Washington - WA, USA)

If you are coming to Olympia with shopping on your agenda, then do bear in mind that this city is a particularly small state capital. However, if you don't come expecting lengthy pedestrianized streets lined with endless stores, then you won't be disappointed with what is actually on offer here, especially if you are prepared to drive to the outlying malls.

Lying on the northern side of downtown Olympia is a group of shops based along 4th Avenue West, 5th Avenue East and Capitol Way South, close to the City Hall, the Artesian Well and Sylvester Park.

Head northwards along Capitol Way North to find further shopping opportunities and plenty of appealing eateries, which lead all the way to the Olympia Farmers' Market Pavilion at the very end, between the waterfront Port Plaza Park and the Gallacci Gardens.

This is one of the biggest of all the farmers' markets within the state of Washington and it is a great place to find some of the freshest local produce available. However, the opening hours are fairly seasonal - Thursday to Sunday between April and October, at weekends in November and December, and closed from January to March.

Where to Shop

If you enjoy shopping for antiques, then head to 4th Avenue East, where the Finder's Keeper's Antique Mall stands just down the road from the Courtyard Antique Mall. However, for the best selection of shops you will need to cross the water and drive into western Olympia, via 4th Avenue West and Harrison Avenue Northwest. If won't be long until you reach both the Westfield Capital Mall and the Capitol Village Shopping Center.

The Westfield Capital stands alongside the Black Lake Boulevard and first opened its doors to shoppers in 1977. Today, there are more than 100 stores, eateries and services based on the two floors, the biggest of which include Best Buy, JC Penney and Macy's. Many locals come here to shop, have a bite to eat and then catch a movie at the onsite multi-screen Century Theaters cineplex.

Just down the road from the Westfield Capital is the Capitol Village Shopping Center on Cooper Point Road Southwest, which sits just across from the Olympia State Park and a large Safeway supermarket. Those driving here don't need to worry about parking spaces, as there are lots to go around, and then some.
