Arlington is certainly home to more than its fair share of quality golf clubs and if you fancy a round, then it is likely that you won't be too far from a course. The Army Navy Country Club resides on the southeastern side of the city center, within close proximity to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport - just a ten-minute drive away.

Lying on the southwestern side of Arlington, close to the Tennedale suburb, the Tierra Verde Golf Club certainly makes the most of its seemingly endless 250 acres / 100 hectares of countryside scenery and is the very first municipal course anywhere on the planet to have been certified as an 'Audubon Signature Sanctuary'. The highly regarded Ventana Grille Restaurant is located within the Tierra Verde clubhouse and is another good reason to play a round here, with al fresco patio dining an option on sunny days.

The Army Navy Country Club has an 18-hole and nine-hole course. Featuring narrow fairways and water hazards on a few holes, this historic club dates back to 1924 but has been redesigned several times. Famous players who have used this course include President Clinton. Green fees are generally considered to be inexpensive.

The Washington Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole private course and dates all the way back to 1894, making this one of Virginia's oldest. Fees are fairly expensive, with membership including the use of extensive club facilities, such as a swimming pool, restaurant, tennis courts, fitness center and personal instructors.

Shade Valley Country Club

The Shade Valley Country Club is a beautiful tree-lined 6,550-yard course with 18 holes and extensive recreational facilities, including tennis courts and a swimming pool. Various tournaments take place here each year, such as the Clubcorp Charity Classic, which includes a dinner and silent auction in the evening.

Redesigned as recently as 2008, the Lake Arlington Golf Course features 18 holes in a traditional layout an encompasses some 185 acres / 75 hectares. Located less than 2 km / 1.5 miles to the east of the city center, the Meadowbrook Park Golf Course first opened in 1924, making it the oldest course in the city. Afterwards, the clubhouse and pro shop complete the main attractions here.
