Memphis is home to a staggering number of churches and religious buildings, with many of the city's largest being situated in the heart of downtown. The Greater Memphis Metropolitan area contains more than 2,000 churches in total, with all major religious beliefs and denominations being well represented in the city itself, including Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews and Muslims.

Especially significant is St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral on Poplar Avenue, which began its life in 1858 as a parish church, before being consecrated as a cathedral in 1871. St. Mary's serves as the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee and is easy to find, being sited within the Victorian Village district and next to Morris Park.

St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral can be found in the heart of downtown Memphis and is a magnificent cathedral, constructed in the latter part of the 19th century from eye-catching white stone. Featuring spectacular Gothic-style architecture, St. Mary's was designed by W. Halsey Wood and has an interesting history.

First Baptist Church

Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church
