Pittsburgh Museums
(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - PA, USA)
There are so many museums within Pittsburgh that there will no doubt be at least several of interest to visitors to the city. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History on Forbes Avenue is amongst the most exceptional in Pittsburgh and rivals similar establishments in leading cities around the world, being perfect for children, who will enjoy the Amazon rainforest display and ever-popular dinosaur exhibits.
Another outstanding attraction suitable for all ages is the Carnegie Science Center on Allegheny Avenue, which although it officially opened in 1991, has a history stretching much further back. The Carnegie Science Center is currently the premier museum in Pittsburgh and enjoys high visitor numbers, with attractions including everything from a planetarium and miniature railroad, to a WWII submarine, an Omnimaz Theater, daily demonstrations, and even an aquarium.
If you are keen to learn more about Pittsburgh's long and interesting past, then the Senator John Heinz History Center on Smallman Street is the place to be, being founded as long ago as 1884 and housing an important archives section and library.
While for information about the rich industrial heritage of Pittsburgh, the Bessemer Court and Transportation Museum on Smithfield Street celebrates the historic changes and techniques implemented by wealthy entrepreneur and industrialist, Andrew Carnegie (1835 to 1919), who is the namesake of many attractions in the city today, including both the aforementioned Carnegie Museum of Natural History and also the Carnegie Science Center.
