With Cleveland's regeneration has come an influx of artists and urban professionals seeking to adorn their walls. This combination of supply and demand has made the perfect breeding ground for the galleries that have sprung up in and around the city.

In Little Italy alone there are now more than 20 galleries, where it's possible to appreciate and in many cases purchase all manner of works. There are also countless small galleries and similar art museums that celebrate Cleveland's ethnic diversity.

One not to miss is the renowned Cleveland Museum of Art, which has expanded greatly in recent years and now boasts a permanent collection of more than 45,000 pieces, including the famous Picasso painting entitled 'La Vie' from the 'blue period'. Other big name artists exhibited here include Monet, Renoir, Rubens, Turner and Van Gogh, amongst others.

Located within the campus of the Cape Western Reserve University and close to Wade Park, the Botanical Gardens and the city's Institute of Art, this world-famous gallery is home to an exceptional permanent collection, including fine Renaissance pieces, and contemporary European and American art, all of which are displayed in spacious galleries. The Cleveland Museum of Art is also host of world art from various epochs and features many special exhibitions and events, attracting visitors from around the world.

Algebra Tea House

African American Museum

The African American Museum was founded in Cleveland to preserve and disseminate information regarding the artistic contributions of individuals of African descent. Displays focus on works by Africans and African Americans. Close by, the Newton Avenue Historic District lies just a few blocks to the east.

Allen Memorial Art Museum

Founded in 1917 and located in the neighboring city of Oberlin, approximately 35 miles / 56 km to the southwest, this museum boasts a collection of more than 11,000 works that span the history of art. Highlights at the Allen Memorial Art Museum include 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings, late 19th and 20th-century European art, contemporary American art, Old Masters and Japanese prints.

Hungarian Heritage Society

The Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Society's mission is to preserve Hungarian culture and the experience of Hungarians in Northeast Ohio. Exhibits at the art museum include Hungarian art work and folk costumes. Next door, the Galleria at Erieview Shopping Center is on hand, should you have time to spend some of your holiday money.

The Thomas R. Riley Gallery features works with an emphasis on three-dimensional glass art sculptures and those in wood, metal, ceramic, fiber and gemstone. Located at the Eton Square Shopping Center, within the affluent suburb of Beachwood, this venue is one of three, the other two being situated in Columbus and Seattle.

Spaces is an artist-run gallery in Cleveland that is dedicated to providing freedom, resources and an audience for artists. This funky gallery stands close to the Cuyahoga River and St. Malachi's Church, and showcases contemporary art from America and beyond.
