Located to the east of downtown, Buffalo Niagara International Airport is a busy facility receiving many flights from all over the country and limited overseas destinations, with the likes of AirTran Airways, American, Continental, Delta, Northwest and US Airways. Jetblue provides cheap, one-way flights around the state. Buses and taxis are available for transport to the city, while the ITA Shuttle runs throughout the day to town and hotels. Expressway 33 offers direct travel to the airport from downtown Buffalo.

Car Rental

Renting a car makes sense while visiting Buffalo as the city's attractions are fairly spread out and the roads are good. The airport has offices for all major global car rental companies including Avis, Budget and Hertz. Interstate 90 and New York State Thruway provide access to the town direct from Boston before continuing on around the south shore of Lake Erie to Cleveland, while I-380, I-81 and I-90 run from New York City.

Buses and Coaches

Greyhound Line buses travel to Buffalo direct from New York, Boston and Cleveland several times a day and the bus station is located at 181 Ellicott Street. New York Trailways buses also serve Buffalo.

Trains

Amtrak trains run to Buffalo from New York daily and the station is located on Exchange Street. Buffalo also has a convenient Metro Rail system that runs along Main Street, parts of which are free.

Taxis

Although the city has good bus and rail travel options for getting about, making use of taxis can get you to your desired destination quicker. There are several taxi companies in Buffalo including Broadway Taxi, although hailing one on the street can prove to be difficult.
