Buffalo features a number of impressive museums, art galleries and historic buildings that are well worth visiting. Appealing to all ages, these institutions contain many large collections of local memorabilia, art works and changing exhibitions.

The Albright Knox Art Gallery is without doubt the premier art gallery in Buffalo and is home to a series of important paintings and sculptures, being located alongside the State College and the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall. Notable museums in the area include the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, as well as the nearby Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, which is located some 13 miles / 21 km to the north and in North Tonawanda.

The Albright Knox building itself is a work of art, let alone the amazing masterpieces inside the gallery. The building was built in the Greek-Revival style and features 18 awesome columns, while inside are 5,000 works by the likes of Picasso, Pollock and Warhol that make up part of the permanent collection. The gallery is well organized.

Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park

Standing in the city's downtown district and on the waterfront, the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park is a popular museum, dedicated to America's armed forces. Highlights at the naval center include a historic submarine, a missile cruiser, wartime memorabilia and an array of military-related collections.

Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is situated close to Buffalo and is famous for being America's only historic carrousel factory. This museum opened in the early 1980s and is sited in the original carrousel factory building, which first produced these rides almost 100 years ago. Attractions here include many exhibitions, historic artifacts, demonstrations, Sunday theater shows and two antique carrousel rides, in working order.
