Jackson offers a selection of museums and art galleries, housing a number of impressive collections. Chief among these for many will be the Mississippi Museum of Art, which happens to be the largest gallery in the state and the most visited, and stands close to both the Capital City Convention Center and the Thalia Mara Hall.

Founded as long ago as 1932, the interesting Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is another of Jackson's best cultural attractions, being popular with all the family. Visitors can expect to find a large number of aquariums, dinosaur skeletons, fossil collections, various dioramas showing extinct species, and a large artificial swamp, complete with turtles and alligators.

For the green-fingered, the excellent Mississippi Museum of Natural Science delves into the world of plants and animals indigenous to Mississippi. Areas of the state featured here include the Delta bottomlands and the scenic cypress swamps. A number of nature trails are also available and surrounded by native flora and fauna. Much greenery stands close by, within both the Riverside Park and Lefleur's Bluff State Park.

Relocated to its present setting on South Lamar Street from the nearby Mississippi Arts Center on East Pascagoula Street, the Mississippi Museum of Art is located in the downtown district of Jackson and certainly comes highly recommended. The impressive collection spans centuries and prominent works by the likes of Andy Warhol and Georgia O'Keeffe are featured. You may also be lucky enough to be here when the gallery hosts its regular touring exhibitions and live jazz performances.

Agriculture and Forestry Museum

The Agriculture and Forestry Museum examines the city's important ecological history. Featuring a number of impressive displays of farmyard machinery, highlights include an original farmstead dating back to the mid 19th century. Nearby attractions include Le Fleur's Bluff Golf Course, Lakeland Park and the Smith-Wills Stadium.
