Saint Paul Hotels and Accommodation

(Saint Paul, Minnesota - MN, USA)

Being considerably smaller in size than its twin city, Minneapolis, St. Paul certainly does offer less in the way of choice when it comes to accommodation. Nevertheless, there are usually more than enough hotels in the city to go round, although it is worth noting that lodging rates tend to be at their highest towards the end of the summer season.

Downtown St. Paul is where the biggest selection of hotels is to be found, often being close to the banks of the Mississippi River. Next to Rice Park and the Landmark Center, and just down the road from the Xcel Energy Center, the aptly named four-star Saint Paul Hotel enjoys a particularly central location on Market Street. Also within walking distance is the Roy Wilkins Auditorium and the Science Museum of Minnesota, as well as Upper Landing Park.

Nearby, further accommodation includes the Crowne Plaza Riverfront on Kellogg Boulevard East, the Holiday Inn Downtown St. Paul on 7th Street West, and the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel on Minnesota Street. The Hilton is especially popular, due to its proximity to the Fitzgerald Theater, which is just a couple of blocks away.

Where to Stay

Offering good value for money is the Best Western Bandana Square on Bandana Boulevard West. Located on the northwesterly side of St. Paul, in the direction of Minneapolis, the Best Western has cheap chain-style accommodation just off Energy Park Drive and next to the Twin City Model Railroad Museum.

When it comes to luxury accommodation, the Saint Paul Hotel is certainly hard to beat, although the Embassy Suites Downtown Hotel is also very much of note and a solid choice for business travelers looking for comfort and comprehensive amenities in the heart of the action. Another rather upmarket option and quite unique is the floating Covington Inn Bed and Breakfast (B&B) off Harriet Island Road, which is set on a restored and refurbished tugboat, on the Mississippi River itself.

For budget lodging in the St. Paul area, you will need to head to the outskirts and suburbs of the city. Notable cheap accommodation and chain hotels include the Super 8 Motel on Old Hudson Road (just off Interstate I-94, exit 245, nearby the Sun Ray Shopping Center) and the Days Inn on University Avenue West (just off Interstate I-94, exit 238, close to the Midway Railway Station).
