Augusta Hotels and Accommodation

(Augusta, Maine - ME, USA)

Although Augusta may well be the state capital of Maine, it is a fairly small city and therefore the choice of hotels here is fairly limited and perhaps not as extensive as you might expect. Nevertheless, there is usually more than enough accommodation to go around, with much of the lodging being grouped in noticeable clusters.

Located on the northern side of the city are a number of hotels, which are to be found sandwiched in between the University of Maine, the Augusta Marketplace and the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Accommodation in this part of Augusta city comes in the form of familiar chains, such as the Best Western Plus on Community Drive, the Comfort Inn Civic Center on Civic Center Drive and the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Anthony Avenue.

Where to Stay

Located on the western side of downtown Augusta and close to the State Airport is a further collection of cheap hotels and motels, which are based around the Maine Turnpike (Interstate I-95). Accommodation here includes the Econo Lodge Inn, Hampton Inn, Senator Inn and Super 8, all of which stand on the Western Avenue. Close by, further hotels lie along both Edison Drive and Whitten Road.

In downtown Augusta, there is little in the way of hotels and so you will need to choose between small guest houses and B&Bs.

A good alternative to mainstream chain hotels and travelodges, the Second Street Bed and Breakfast is a fairly safe bet and is located on the southern side of Augusta city center, next to the Kennebec River Reservoir and within the suburb of Hallowell.

Visitors will find that lodging here is colonial in style, with a number of restaurants and bars being within walking distance, along with the scenic Kennebec Rail Trail. Accommodation rates tend to be guided by the season, being at their cheapest between November and April, and generally peaking during the warmer months, from May to October.
