Casino Riverboats

Enchanted Mansion Doll Museum

A must for kids, this museum contains countless examples of dolls through the ages, complete with costumes and ranging from Victorian dolls through to contemporary designs with exquisite faces. Models include president's wives as well as the famous Lee Middleton collectibles. The museum itself is housed in a stately old house and traditional English tea is offered here on Thursday afternoons.

Magnolia Mound Plantation

With its French Creole style and simple design, the Magnolia Mound Plantation house dates from the late 18th century and has been steadily expanded over the years. This wonderful wooden structure sits on stilts and has a lovely porch with a covered roof and French Caribbean detailing. Inside the house you will find a museum pertaining to the era and even the guides are dressed in period costume, alluring to the elegance of the era. It is one of the closest plantation houses to Baton Rouge and therefore quite popular.

Mount Hope Plantation

One of the more popular of the many plantations that make the area famous, Mount Hope dates from the late 1800s and was famously used as the set for Gone with the Wind. This antebellum home has retained its original state and has a wide porch, sweeping lawns and wonderful gardens. Built by a German immigrant, it has a simple but graceful interior and is reminiscent of a bygone era of wealth and grandeur.

San Francisco Plantation

Located in Garyville, this plantation home sets itself apart from the others with its distinctly ornate Louisianan interior and appearance, referred to some as 'Steamboat Gothic'. It sits on the banks of the Mississippi and was one of the most expensive ventures of its time when it was built in 1856. Recently restored to its present grandeur, the house is filled with authentic period furnishings and antiques.
