Historic structures of significant interest in San Diego include the Victorian buildings in the Gaslamp Quarter, original buildings in Old Town and ancient Spanish-style hilltop cathedrals.





Cabrillo National Monument

Along with spectacular views that attract whale watchers during the winter, San Diego's Cabrillo National Monument also features a statue of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who arrived in 1542, and a restored lighthouse which dates back to 1855.

Marston House

Built by developer George Marston and dating back to 1905, San Diego's Marston House mansion is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This important landmark boasts beautiful interior woodwork and a brick and stucco exterior reminiscent of prairie-style architecture.

Old Town State Historic Park

Located in San Diego's Old Town district, Old Town State Historic Park is home to numerous original and reconstructed historic buildings built between 1821 and 1872. This area also offers a distinctly Mexican atmosphere.

Whaley House

Built in 1856 for Thomas Whaley, this impressive two-story house is famous for being haunted. Supposedly home to four ghostly spirits, San Diego's Whaley House also contains a number of interesting worldly objects, such as a rare life mask of Abraham Lincoln and the piano used in the film 'Gone with the Wind'.
