Niagara Falls is a fairly compact city and provides a number of travel and transport options. Car rental is plentiful in the Niagara Falls area and always popular with visitors, who often travel to surrounding areas and enjoy the freedom that driving allows.

Public bus transport is also on offer in Niagara Falls, together with local shuttles, and Greyhound buses and coaches, which travel longer distances. Train travel is available at the Niagara Falls VIA Rail station, and taxis are another particularly convenient method of transport, ideal for short distances.


Airports / Arriving by Air

Both of these airports offer a range of ground transport and are within easy driving distance of central Niagara Falls. Transport options at the airports include shuttle buses, car rental and taxis. Door-to-door transport is available from both airports via the Niagara Airbus and this is a particularly popular way to travel into the city.

Car Rental

Car rental is available at both Toronto and Buffalo airports, with a variety of major car travel companies being represented, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National. A number of car rental transport outlets are also available in central Niagara Falls, along Stanley Avenue, Valley Way and Victoria Avenue. Traveling by car in central Niagara Falls is often more trouble than it is worth, although cars are the perfect method of transport for day trips and excursions to surrounding towns and attractions. There are a number of car parking districts in Niagara Falls and these are always well signposted. One of the most popular car parks is situated off Robinson Street, close to the Skylon Tower, and is free of charge.

Buses and Coaches

The main bus station in Niagara Falls is located at 4555 Erie Avenue, in the more historic area of the city. This bus station provides bus travel to a variety of nearby cities, including regular hourly Greyhound buses to Toronto, with this journey lasting around two hours. Shuttle buses also travel from Niagara Falls to nearby Buffalo, Niagara on the Lake, Toronto Airport and Buffalo Airport. Connecting Greyhound bus transport also travels throughout the United States.

Buses are one of the best ways to travel around the Niagara Falls area and the Niagara Parks People Mover bus transport provides excellent value for money. Operating from the end of April to early October, People Mover buses travel upstream to the Horseshoe Falls, along River Road, past Rainbow Bridge and right up to the Queenston Heights Park area. Daily tickets allow you to hop on and off throughout the day at any of the numerous stops.

Niagara Transit has operated a variety of bus transport in this area since the 1960s. With three shuttle bus services, which travel around ten routes throughout the city, these shuttle buses operate every 30 minutes between 09:00 to 02:00 and all-day shuttle tickets are available. Shuttle bus transport is available between May and October.

By Foot

Walking is often the best way to travel around the center of Niagara Falls any many of the main attractions are close to each other. Downtown hotels are often well placed for exploration of the city on foot.

The Niagara Falls VIA Rail station is situated at 4267 Bridge Street off Erie Avenue, close to Rainbow Bridge. Each day, two trains travel to Toronto throughout the week, and this is a particularly popular route, with the journey lasting no more than two hours. Train travel is much cheaper when booked at least five days in advance. Other train routes available at Niagara Falls' train station travel to western London and southeastern New York.

The main taxi transport company in the area is Niagara Falls Taxi, which operate a fleet of around 50 cabs. Taxis can be pre-booked prior to arrival at the airport, or simply requested by phone. Taxis are a particularly convenient way to travel around Niagara Falls and response times are quick.
