Buffalo

Located less than 30 minutes from the Niagara Falls area, Buffalo is around 23 miles / 37 km from the town. Known for being the official home of America's spicy chicken wing, Buffalo is a true metropolis and contains a population of almost 300,000. Full of major tourist attractions, highlights at the city include the Theodore Roosevelt National Historic Site, the Albright Knox Art Gallery and the Buffalo Zoological Gardens, which is one of the oldest zoos in the USA. Close to Niagara Falls, Queenston Heights Park is often referred to as the 'birthplace of Canada' and is home to both Brock's Monument and the Laura Secord Monument. A popular spot for picnics, the park features two pavilions, playground areas for children, a highly regarded restaurant, colorful flowerbeds, mature landscaping, tennis courts and many other attractions. Located on a famous 1812 battle site, the Queenston Heights Park also offers superb views of the Niagara River.

Brock's Monument

The Brock's Monument is a notable landmark within the nearby Queenston Heights Park and dates back to the mid-19th century. Commemorating Major General Isaac Brock, who died in this area during the 1812 War, the monument measures around 55 meters / 180 feet in height.

The Historic Fort George, a popular excursion from Niagara Falls, can be found in the village of Niagara on the Lake. An important site used during the War of 1812, this ancient landmark stands inside the Fort George National Historic Park and offers a selection of attractions and artifacts, housed in restored army barracks and officers quarters. Historic Fort George also features a trail, which leads to the nearby Fort Mississauga.

Located in Youngstown, just 15 miles / 24 km from Niagara Falls, Old Fort Niagara is an important New York State Historic Site and can be reached in just over 20 minutes by car. An important, historic fortification, attractions here include a number of buildings which were built almost 300 years ago, seasonal re-enactments of battles, archaeological finds and educational exhibits. Each year Old Fort Niagara attracts in excess of 100,000 visitors, who come to enjoy the many historical attractions and military memorabilia.
