Valencia Hotels and Accommodation

(Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela)

Since Valencia isn't a shining beacon on Venezuela's tourism map, it only has a basic range of accommodation. Fortunately, the hotels that do exist in the city are quite reasonable and most are conveniently located in the central downtown area. Unlike Caracas, you won't have to worry as much about securing your room in advance. Valencia gets its share of business travellers, but not nearly on the scale of Caracas.

The lodging options in Valencia range from decent but simple three-star business hotels to elegant five-star digs, such as the Intercontinental Tacarigua. There isn't much to choose from in the budget realm, and like the rest of Venezuela, you really do get what you pay for.

Where to Stay

If you go for the cheapest room in Valencia, it is likely to be found within an unpleasant concrete block better suited for truck drivers. This cheap and rather basic accommodation is clustered around the Plaza Bolivar, an area that can be unsafe after dark.

By all accounts, the nicest hotel in Valencia is the Intercontinental Tacarigua. This five-star luxury hotel doesn't come cheap, but its scenic hilltop location and superb facilities make it a very comfortable place to stay.

Despite being in its own lush little oasis some 4 km / 2.5 miles to the north of the centre, you are still just a few minutes from downtown and tourist attractions like the Paez House (Casa Paez), the Cerro Casupo Municipal Park and the Museum of the City (Museo de la Ciudad). Also in the top end, the Hotel El Diamante offers excellent luxury accommodation, with rooms that are centrally located.

There are plenty of smaller three- and four-star hotels scattered throughout the city. Hotels such as the Carabobo, the Stauffer and the Continental all get good reviews for cleanliness and good value lodging.

If you prefer accommodation more on the chic side, then check out the Lidotel Hotel Boutique Valencia. This new hotel has definitely raised the bar in Valencia for upscale modern digs. Alternatively, you can stay some 18 km / 11 miles outside of the city at nearby Las Trincheras, where a nice resort and spa has been built around the popular natural hot springs.
