Bayamon Landmarks and Monuments

(Bayamon, Puerto Rico)

Although Bayamon has only the architectural attraction of its unusual City Hall, there is an abundance of historical landmarks in Old San Juan and some of the inner neighbourhoods.

Visitors holidaying in Bayamon are spoilt for choice when they head to Spanish San Juan to see the sights. Promenades, plazas and charming colonial buildings can be found all over San Juan proper, many of which are clustered in the old district.

City Hall

Address: Route 2, Bayamon, Puerto Rico, PR
The Bayamon City Hall is a unique building for the fact that it is suspended over five lanes of traffic. Even more interesting is that the walkway over the highway is made of glass, creating a speedy sensation. In the City Hall building there is also a theatre that holds performances by some of the country's top actors. Next door is El Parque del Tren, a small tourist attraction in its own right.

San Juan Gate

Address: Calle San Francisco, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, PR
Built around 1635, this iconic gate stands just north of La Fortaleza and is only a short distance downhill from the cathedral. Visitors arriving by ship in the 17th and 18th century had to enter the city via this very gate, which was closed at sundown to block entry into the Old City. There used to be several gates in San Juan's wall, but this is actually the only one still standing today.
