Bayamon Hotels and Accommodation

(Bayamon, Puerto Rico)

Unless you need to stay right next to your favourite shopping mall, there's little reason to choose accommodation in Bayamon itself. There are only a few hotels in the city of Bayamon, and you will find yourself rather far from the action of Old San Juan and the beaches. A better choice is probably one of the nearer suburbs to Old San Juan, like Condado or Isla Verde.

Keep in mind that every hotel room in Puerto Rico is subject to a tax that is rarely included in the advertised nightly rates. For hotels with casinos, the tax is 12 percent, while all other hotels are taxed at nine percent per room. Country inns, known as 'paradores', will charge you seven percent tax. The city of San Juan charges an additional fee of a few dollars per guest as a kind of head tax, and the nicer accommodation options around the city will likely tack on another ten percent service charge. If they don't, you will be expected to tip for any service you receive.

Where to Stay

In Bayamon, one of the best places to stay is San Miguel Plaza Hotel. However, the lodging in Condado is more centrally located, and hotels around Isla Verde offer proximity to the best beaches within San Juan.

Old San Juan is another good choice for accommodation, since it is where much of the dining and nightlife can be found. Unless you plan to spend most of your time on the beach, this vibrant part of the metropolis is the best bet.

Outside of San Juan and still within reach of Bayamon are a number of all-inclusive luxury resorts set on private expansive grounds. This is particularly true along the eastern coast of the city. Puerta de Tierra is where you can find the high-class Normandie Hotel and the Caribe Hilton, two of the nicer hotels in the city offering upscale accommodation.

The part of San Juan that has experienced the most recent and invigorating revival is the Condado district. Flashy development projects like the Windows to the Sea Park and La Concha anchor the new movement and lure visitors year-round. The dining options along Ashford Avenue and the boutique shops on Magdalena Avenue ensure plenty of diversion within walking distance from hotels in Condado.
