Trinidad Hotels and Accommodation

(Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus, Cuba)

Trinidad de Cuba is a small town with a population of around 70,000, geared to tourism but with few major hotels and resorts. The three- and four-star accommodation available is mainly scattered along its white-sand beaches. Most hotel lodging options are found in modernised historic colonial buildings, adding an extra dimension to a visit. However, the best way to see the real Cuba in Trinidad is to stay in one of the numerous registered 'casas particulares', the Cuban equivalent of B&B accommodation.

Ranging from homestay rooms to small guest-house style lodging, casas particulares in Trinidad are inexpensive, comfortable and give guests a chance to see Cuban life as it is. All offer bed and breakfast accommodation with evening meals when required, and this is also a great way to experience traditional Cuban cuisine at its regional best. A good alternative to hotels, casa particulares can be found in the better areas all across town and within the old city, offering great value for money and an interesting edge to your stay.

Where to Stay

If you are looking for privacy as well as luxury accommodation in Trinidad, the Las Cuevas resort hotel has 60 air-conditioned cottages with private bathrooms, satellite TVs, restaurants, nightlife, car rental, swimming pools and much more. A few kilometres away is the Brisas Trinidad del Mar hotel resort, which is set next to a white-sand beach and backed by the Escambray Mountains.

On the famous Ancon Beach is the modern Hotel Alcon, with its spacious lounges decorated with local handicrafts, an extensive range of water sports facilities, and both Creole and international cuisine. Seafood dishes are a speciality here. In the very heart of colonial Trinidad, the Iberostar Grand Hotel is set in an imposing old building and provides for every need.

If you are set on meeting the Cuban people and experiencing the lifestyle on offer in Trinidad, casas particulares are the answer, rather than hotels. Based within a colonial house, the Casa de Benito Rodriguez on Gustavo Izquerdo is furnished with antiques and serves great food.

Another reliable accommodation option is La Nina on Francisco Javier Zerquera Street, in a pretty colonial building, again with delicious breakfasts and evening meals. Often, these lodging options only have one or two rooms to let, but if you arrive and they are already let, the friendly owners will usually be happy to help you find similar accommodation in the neighbourhood.
