Vinales Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

The subtropical climate of Vinales ensures hot temperatures all year round. There are basically two seasons here - dry and wet. The rainy season typically runs from May through October, and the dry season from November to April. In addition, Vinales is occasionally affected by Cuba's hurricane season, in September and October. If you are travelling during these two months, keep an eye on the weather forecast.

The humidity levels range from 75 percent to 95 percent, depending on the time of year. During the rainy season, the heat and humidity create rather uncomfortable conditions. The drier sunny winter climate also tends to be cooler, with temperatures dropping to 25°C / 77°F to 27°C / 81°F, and thus offer the best weather in the Vinales Valley. However, rain can occur during any month, so bring proper gear.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The dry season, known as 'la seca', is the busiest time in Vinales, since it offers the most favourable climate. Expect bumper crowds and higher prices for accommodation between December and March. Peak holiday dates in Cuba are over Christmas and Easter, when the package tour groups really fill the town up. You will need a hotel booking well in advance if you plan to travel during these two periods.

If your goal is to avoid the crowds and the ensuing party that goes with them, consider visiting in early May, November or early December. In addition to having the naturally calm countryside to yourself, you can enjoy lower rates on your room and tours. The only downside to the low season is that temperatures are higher, and the rains can settle in for extended periods of time.
