Fortaleza Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil)

Enjoying a typically Brazilian tropical climate, with year-round temperatures never straying far from 30°C / 86°F or thereabouts, Fortaleza is an appealing coastal destination to visit at anytime, with gorgeous swimming beaches and balmy evenings. Since this city is located in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons of Fortaleza fall differently to those of the north, with springtime weather commencing each September, summer in December, and winter in June.

Although temperatures remain consistent throughout the year in Fortaleza, the rainfall does vary somewhat season to season. Late summer / early autumn is known to see the most rainy weather, when the climate cools down slightly and monthly precipitation levels in March and April average 30 cm / 12 inches or more. However, it should be said that even the heaviest of rain is often accompanied by a sunny spell or two.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Due to its pleasant climate and enviable location right next to the South Atlantic Ocean, beach culture is an important part of life in Fortaleza, both for tourists and locals alike. Beach temperatures often feel a little cooler and fresher than those in the city centre, due to ocean breezes, making surfing and kitesurfing a popular activity. However, it should be noted that high humidity levels can make parts of the day feel muggy at times.
