Summer weather in Istanbul is both hot and rather humid, while the winters are considerably cooler and rather wet at times.

Many visitors find that springtime is the perfect time to pay a visit to Turkey, and Istanbul is looking at its very best between April and June, when the trees have just leafed out and the skies are blue. The spring climate soon sees temperatures rising above 20°C / 68°F and plenty of sunny weather, and this time of year is noticeably quieter than the following summer tourist season.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The winter climate in Istanbul is decidedly chilly and January tends to be the coldest month, being around 8°C / 46°F by day and often frosty overnight. Snowy weather can be expected at some time during the winter months, when the nearby ski resorts within Uludag quickly spring into action.

July and August are reliably the hottest months in Istanbul and during the very sunniest of weather, the temperatures soar above 30°C / 86°F and any humidity can make the climate feel even hotter. These are also the driest months, seeing just 30 mm / 1.2 inches of rainfall in total, when compared to monthly precipitation levels of between 80 mm / 3.1 inches to 100 m / 4 inches between November and January.
