Gran Canaria Art Galleries

A number of popular art galleries can be found on the island of Gran Canaria, exhibiting a range of art works by both local and international artists. Many of Gran Canaria's best art galleries can be found in the capital city of Las Palmas, including the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM), and the Casa Museo de Colón art galleries.


Casa Museo de Colón (Columbus Museum)

Celebrating the life of one of the world's most famous explorers, Christopher Columbus, this large museum is also known for its exhibitions of art works. Featuring a grand Gothic-style exterior and impressive architecture, the museum features a range of historic ceramics, together with extensive memorabilia about Columbus and his many expeditions.
Open hours: Monday to Friday - 09:00 to 19:00, Saturday - 09:00 to 15:00

Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM)

One of Gran Canaria's premier art galleries, the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, often abbreviated to simply CAAM, was founded in 1989. Housed in a particularly historic building, this vast gallery features extensive exhibition space and many contemporary paintings are on display here, from all around the world. European, African and Latin American works of art are particularly notable at this popular gallery. Other attractions include a bookstore, a library, guided tours and a gift shop, selling a range of souvenirs, prints and postcards.

Museo Diocesano (Diocesan Museum of Religious Art)

Situated in the south wing at the grand Catedral de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Las Palmas Cathedral), the Diocesan Museum of Religious Art contains a number of religious treasures and paintings from the 16th century onwards.

Museo Néstor (Néstor Museum)

Founded to celebrate the life and works of local artist Néstor Martin Fernandez de la Torre, this notable gallery was later extended to house further paintings from the Gallery of Contemporary Canarian Art, together with antique furniture and other local artefacts. The Museo Néstor can be found in the Santa Catalina area of Gran Canaria and displays many of Néstor's varied works, including his famous ocean poem entitled 'The Poem of the Atlantic'.
