Mallorca Hotels and Accommodation

(Mallorca / Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain)

Accommodation on the island of Mallorca is at its most plentiful within the main beach resorts and on the southerly coast, around the capital of Palma de Mallorca. Hotels in Palma are often grouped in the city centre, between the harbourfront and the Placa d'Espanya.

Central Palma de Mallorca really is the best place to stay on the island and lodging here is well-placed for sightseeing. Hotels surrounding the westerly waterfront are particularly touristy and best avoided, since they are a fair distance from anything of interest.

If you are looking for accommodation in Palma de Mallorca and your budget is tight, consider staying at the Hostal Pons on the Carrer del Vi. Hostal literally translates as 'budget hotel', with the Hostal Apuntadores on the Carrer dels Apuntadors being another good bet, standing amongst a group of lively eateries and bars.

For mid-range hotels in Palma de Mallorca, look along the streets known as the Carrer de Sant Jaume, the Carrer de la Almundaina, the Carrer de Sant Llorenc, the Carrer del Cardenal Pou, and the Carrer dels Apuntadors. If you are able to splurge, then consider the luxury accommodation available at the Hotel Palacio Ca Sa Galesa on the Carrer de Miramar, which is an upmarket 16th-century converted mansion.

Those who prefer to stay elsewhere on the island and away from Palma de Mallorca in the 'part forana' (part outside), will find the south-westerly coastline rather appealing, being home to innumerable hotels within the popular resorts of Cala Major, Palma Nova, Port d'Andratx and Sant Elm. Alternatively, the north-westerly coastline of Mallorca offers a very different landscape, being more rugged and rather dominated by the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. For accommodation here, look to Banyalbufar, Deia, Estallencs, Port de Pollenca, Soller and Valldemossa.

Hotels are also in good supply on the north-easterly coast of Mallorca, where long sandy beaches front the scenic bay, between Ca'n Picafort and Port d'Alcudia. Accommodation on the east coast can be found around resorts such as Arta, Cala Ratjada, Porto Cristo and Portocolom.
